[ARCHIVED] LOCAL SCHOOL FLAGS TO FLY AT COURTHOUSE ON FRIDAY'S

With high hopes of raising community and school spirit, Parker County Judge Mark Riley has asked all local schools, public and private, to fly their flags at the Parker County Courthouse on Friday’s throughout the school year.
Area school districts responded quickly, proud to have their colors flown on the historic lawn of the 1884 courthouse that stands tall in the center of Weatherford.
Aledo, Azle, Brock, Millsap, Peaster, Poolville, Springtown and Weatherford school districts have provided the county with their flags as well as Weatherford Christian School and Victory Baptist School..
“I think it is a great opportunity to make the courthouse a part of the community and a part of every school in the county,” Riley said. “It is exciting to see the strong sense of school spirit and community pride being shown and we are thrilled to help share that enthusiasm on the courthouse lawn.”
Riley said the excitement that comes with the start of the high school football season was part of what led to the idea, but the flags are not just about football season.
“This is about our schools and our courthouse being a part of the community spirit, not just about a certain sport,” he said. “We want to fly these flags every Friday throughout the entire school year. We are celebrating our schools and our students’ success in their academics, their athletics and their lives in general.”
